Ridgid Wrap
For papier mache modeling, of course. You get a 4"wide x 180" long roll of plaster-coated cloth, wet it, wrap it, and dry it until it's rigid. Finish it with paint or shellac or whatever. "Takes all finishes" the package trumpets. And it's non-toxic, so don't be bashful about rigid-wrapping yourself.

Lampless Lava
Clear acrylic sealed tube, 3-1/8" dia x 8" tall, divided into two equal chambers. The dividing wall has a hole in the center, and the tube has a quantity of viscous violet goo (glycerin?) in it that fills one chamber about 3/4 full. Stand the tube on end with the full chamber up, and over a 10 minute period the goo will ooze from the upper to the lower chamber, blowing bubbles and dribbling droplets in the process, all in slow motion. The action is somewhat reminiscent of a lava lamp, without the heat and light, and with a mixed air and goo chamber that yields much more interesting patterns. Mesmerizing, disgusting, fascinating, soothing. If you only need a little soothing you may want to try the same thing in a smaller size: 2-1/8" diameter x 4-7/8" tall. It comes in a variety of colors from which we will choose yours.

Make Molds For Free!
Just leave bread in a damp place. Or buy this stuff and make casts of solid objects, anything from faces and fingers to celery and crucifixes, with quick-setting Instamold. (We'll sell you 10 oz. of the Instamold compound, but you provide the water to mix it with.) Then fill the molds you've made with plaster, wax, or Permastone-yes, we sell Permastone too. It's an extremely strong casting medium with a clean white hue when set, waterproof and scratch resistant. Each can we sell has 1-3/4 lbs. of Permastone, to be mixed with water.

This is the neatest, as in least-messy, project around. Press precut shapes from (7) fall-toned vinyl sheets onto a window, mirror, refrigerator or any clean glossy surface. (The Stik-ees(r) pieces can be peeled off and used over and over.) Follow the suggested autumn design or create your own with the scarecrow, leaves, pumpkins and acorns. And then let your preschooler re-create it. No spilled paint. No orange glitter in your carpet. No witchy Mom yelling at a preschooler for eating raw pumpkin seeds. Just a calm Mom watching to make sure Junior doesn't eat pieces of the scarecrow.

Tootin' Our Laser
We don't like to brag, but it's tough not to in a case like this. This is a wonderful pen-shaped laser pointer, 5-1/4" long, flat black or silver with gold pocket clip and head. It throws a red point a loong way (we've thrown it two city blocks at night, and it would've gone farther, but buildings got in the way). And what are we so proud of? We've seen a very similar item-not identical, mind you, but essentially the same-in one of those glossy, toys-for-grown-men catalogs. Their price? $40! Wow, we have 8 oz bars of Super Elasticlay, a polymer clay from those crafty guys who brought you Sculpey(tm). Create a push mold, bake it in your home oven, and voila! It retains its shape so that you can use it as a mold, but stays soft enough to pop out those Sculpey or plaster clones. Use it for flexible toys and sculptures, too. A nice statue of your significant other, maybe, that will bend to your every whim.

Moving Sand Art
Black and white sand in a viscous colored fluid. The sand and fluid are between 5-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high panes of glass, framed on a gimbaled stand. Flip the panel and watch the sand swirl and eddy into endlessly new pictures of dunes, drifts, mountains or moonscapes, depending on your imagination and the pattern they form. The mix of black and white creates a definite third dimension to the images. Pretty neat, as these things go.

The Penny Cutters
These are the so-called miracle shears from Pakistan. They were designed for use by paramedics and others needing quickly to cut wire, light sheet metal, or other tough stuff that might stand between them and their quarry. They are normally demonstrated cutting a penny in two. Which they will do. But not as a steady diet. Let's dispel a few myths. While these are Pakistani stainless, we're not talking any miracles in manufacturing. They are good for their purpose, and real handy to have in the old tool box. But their purpose isn't making pennies into 5-mil pieces, and you will twist or break them at about the same time you find out that you've done the same thing to U.S. laws! For sheet metal or wire or fishing leaders or tin cans or whatever, be our guests.
