Instant annoyance for adults and fun for kids, 8 and over. A pair of balls 13/16" in diameter, one sickly green, one mottled rose. Never mind the color. Hold one in your hand, toss the other in the air and catch it with the hand holding the first one. When they hit, they emit a loud pop like the cap in a cap gun. Blasts safely over 200 times. Which should be enough to wear out both parent and child. Made in Taiwan.

Scratch 'n' Tell
You're back to when the kids were toddlers, and played with the wrappings instead of the presents. This full-color wrapping paper, with (2) 26" x 17" sheets in each pack, is covered with pictures and related questions about dinosaurs and black heritage. Kids going through a collecting stage will love these plastic discs, each a little over 1-1/2" dia. They have a picture (flora, fauna, or other) printed on one side and a bit of information about whatever it is on the reverse side. Each disc has (8) small cuts around the edge, so it will interlock with other discs. Use them like flash cards, build great structures, create cog games, and learn about stuff at the same time.

You can start with our single aluminum tuning fork, 2-tined and 7-1/2" long. It vibrates at 256 hz, and is labeled "C". Or you can order the set that has (8) forks and a mallet with a rubber-tipped plastic head. The forks are labeled low-C to high-C and come in a fitted, latched wooden box. Unfortunately, C.J., who has perfect pitch, tells us that his pitch is more perfect than most of the tuning forks. He also says you can file the tips, tuning them to an electronic keyboard until they're perfect - and we think there's a certain cachet to telling people you tuned the forks yourself. But they are perfect, if you're using them for things like teaching principles of sound or driving the chihuahua crazy.

Teutonic Noise

Plastic siren/whistle made in West Germany. A touch over 3/4" in diameter and a similar touch under 2" long. that makes it hard, but not impossible, to swallow, so please use care in teaching youngsters to sound like a miniature air raid siren. The well-made whistle has a perforated metal disk that rotates in response to a silent blast from the perpetrator's, lungs. This creates a high-pitched reasonably loud and certainly distinctive siren-sound that picks up pitch in relation to the air velocity, sustains it as long as your wind holds out, and winds down quickly thereafter. A fine way to signal your arrival or departure. Probably not loud enough to collect the clan at the beach, but it should get their attention in the classroom!!
