Battery Holders
We have a number of battery holders, constantly changing in detail. They may be plastic, they may be metal. They all have either simple short wire leads or connection points. In all cases, they hold a number of batteries and connect them internally in series. The table shows the number and type of batteries held, the final voltage, material, lead type and price.

Quad Power
The Quad XP-581 from Elenco provides four separate, fully regulated power supplies. Three are fixed and yield +5 VDC at 3 amps, -12 VDC at 1 amp, or +12 VDC at 1 amp. The fourth supply is variable, producing 2.5 to 20 volts of DC output at up to 2 amps. Line and output voltages are regulated to within 0.05 volts, and the supply is linear. All four supplies are shortproof as well. A current foldback circuit in each supply collapses the field in the event of a short, a current surge from the line, or an excessive current demand. Thus, both the Quad XP-580 and the equipment it's driving are normally protected from inadvertent errors or power company problems. Elenco built the supply as only Elenco will. The handsome, hooded metal case, - measuring 3-1/4" x 8-1/4" x 9-1/4" and weighing nine pounds - has a 3-wire grounded power cord for 115 VAC operation, panel meters for both current and voltage, and standard jacks for accessing the four regulated supplies. A two-year limited warranty and schematic is also included.

Our medium solar panel is mounted in an aluminum frame and rated at 12VDC with a max voltage (no load) of 15.8. Measures just under 12" x 9-1/2" x 1" and has leads of approx 15 feet. Short-circuit current is 360mA. Composition is monocrystalline silicon. Working temp is -49°F to 185°F. Our larger panel is mounted in an aluminum frame and measures 15-7/8" x 13-3/8" x 1-1/8". Rated at 12VDC with a max output voltage (no load) of 17.6 and current of .88A. Short circuit current is 0.9A. Working temp is -49°F to 185°F and the output is through a covered terminal box on the back. No wiring.

Power Supply
This MW® regulated power supply draws 120 VAC and delivers constant accurate power to a video game, radio, portable TV, or any device drawing up to 1.5 amps. The 5 1/8" x 3-7/8" x 2-5/8" housing has a rotary dial to designate 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9 or 12 VDC output, and heavy-duty red and black binding posts. Automatic short circuit and overload protection and thermal cutoff. PLEASE NOTE: The many older catalogs mention 6-ft leads with modular plugs. These units no longer include the leads or plugs. Battery Pack
Handyman special. You pick a battery holder to fit your project. The D-cell holder is an enclosed hard black-plastic case, 2-3/4" x 6-1/4" x 1-5/8" with space inside for (4) "D"s, designed to give 6V output via a 30" long cord with a 1/8" miniplug. (Originally made to power a tabletop fountain.) The C-cell holder is an open-top white-plastic tray, 2-1/8" x 4-1/4", into which you snap (4) "C"s for 6V output. Attached with a short lead is a 1" square box with a 1/8" jack and a slide-switch to control the power.

Lithium Keeper®
The manufacturer calls the model the Keeper®, perhaps because this new lithium thionyl chloride battery was made for a memory backup system. Also used in GPS systems and others, all of which explains the 15-year shelf life. Measures 1-7/8" long x 1" dia and is rated at 3.6VDC 8500mAH. Has 3/16" wide x 3/4" long axial solder tabs. Polarity is marked on the case. Not rechargeable. Great for robotics.

Switch Hitter
This very nice switching power supply, originally for a microscope illuminator, works well with a halogen lamp. It puts out between 1.2VDC and 5.8VDC up to 5A, and is variable through a potentiometer. Input is 120VAC through a female IEC plug (think computer plugs), output is through an insulated double white lead coming off the PC board and terminating in a 2-pin lamp socket. The board and bracket measure 5-3/4" x 3-1/8" and need at least 2" clearance on top. You'll need to provide a case. Made by Futaba. UL/CSA.

A take-out from a Game Boy" solar pack accessory, this little 3-pack of NiMH rechargeable batteries gives up to 3.6V at approx 1000mAH. The flat pack measures 2-5/8" x 2" x 1/4" thick with solder tabs at opposite corners and, yes, the cells can be separated.
